About Tsugumi Ooba (大場つぐみ)
In 2003, “DEATH NOTE” (illustrated by Takeshi Obata) was published in “Weekly Shonen Jump” without knowing the past results of his activities, and then he made his serial debut.
“DEATH NOTE” is a hit product that is highly evaluated overseas as it has many media mixes such as live-action movies, novels and anime.
After “DEATH NOTE” in 2006, there was no noticeable activity for a while, but he teamed up again with Takeshi Obata, and “Bakuman” serialized from 2008 to 2012.
“Platinum End” has been serialized in “Jump SQ.” Since 2015.
He is a manga artist whose real name, sexuality, and date of birth are unknown, and among various theories, the Gamou Hiroshi theory, which is the manga artist of “Lucky Man” (1993-1997, Jump Comics), is plausible.
His pseudonym, OOBA TSUGUMI (In Japan, we write our family name followed by our first name.) has meaning,
Oo → Large
Ba Tsu → Cross (X) mark**
Gumi → group
(**Teachers in Japan circle correct answers and put X marks on mistakes.)
After finishing the series of “Lucky Man”, he presented various manuscripts (called the Name) to editors for re-serialization, but he were not adopted at all.
The rejected Names were placed in a box with a large “X mark” written on it by editors, moreover the editors called them who bring rejection manuscripts, “Oo Batsu Gumi”.
“Oo Batsu Gumi” = “Large X mark group”
